About the 2024 Poster Artist…
Denny Provost
Denny is a 9th-generation Metis and has been drawing and creating since a child. He was trained at the University of Windsor from 2001-2003 and owned an art gallery from 2009-2010 called Fine Art Paintings. He has participated in juried art shows and multiple art events over the years including the Toronto Art Festival in 2011. Denny took a 10-year hiatus from art to self-build 2 houses and recently returned to the art world. He has been met with welcoming praise. Recently, Denny opened a studio/gallery space in downtown Nanaimo above the Vault Cafe. He is keeping busy with local business signs, murals, commissions, and hosting art classes.
“I am thrilled to present this year's art poster, which is sure to brighten up any space! As a color-blind artist, I have chosen a unique concept that will stand out and captivate viewers. The poster features a symmetrical design in bold and vibrant colors, inspired by my previous works such as the moose and skull pieces. The theme of the gray whale has been incorporated, creating a harmonious blend with the background, which is open to interpretation. This poster captures the essence of the gray whale in its natural habitat, with colors that represent the vibrant world of marine life. I hope this art piece inspires you to explore and respect the natural world around us, and to appreciate the true beauty of ocean life”.
